Christoph Mayer was a research fellow focusing on governance of critical technology in DGAP’s Technology and Global Affairs Program. He previously worked as a project officer in Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung’s Asia division in Berlin, where he was the liaison for their offices in Beijing and Hong Kong. Prior to that, he served in Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung’s EU and North America division as the liaison for the offices in Washington, DC, and Brussels. Topics he has worked on include governance of technology, privacy rights, and the intersection between digitalization and sustainability.

Mayer holds a master’s degree in war and conflict studies from the University of Potsdam and a bachelor’s degree in politics and public administration from the University of Konstanz. During his studies, he went through working visits at the German Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. He also spent a year abroad at National Chengchi University in Taiwan and a semester at Universidad Autónoma in Madrid.

Mayer was a recipient of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung scholarship and was a Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung scholar. In 2019, he was selected by Robert-Bosch-Stiftung and Korea Verband to be part of the EPRIE 2019 cohort in Japan and South Korea.
